As some of you may know Hunters Point has recently applied for a new conditional use permit to cover all of the new houses we have taken on since the closing of neighboring resorts.
We are now asking for your help in this issue. Neighboring residents are petitioning to deny the permit thus would mean we would have to cut summer storage down to only 44 houses. They are writing letters into the county accusing the resort of being unsanitary, noisy, and overcrowded. We have tried to compromise with these residents by volunteering to put up no parking signs, removing all fish houses off the properties looked near George & Linda's old house and by agreeing not to add anymore house to the resort. They still continue to fight us.
Hunters point strives be your home away from home. We enjoy being the place where you teach your children how to fish, enjoy campfires and play in the snow. We have worked for the past 11 yrs to make the resort as enjoyable for you and your families as possible. We hope you enjoy seeing us as much as we enjoy seeing you. Our customers are not customers to us, you are like our second family and we never want to see that end.
We ask that you PLEASE write letters to Mille Lacs County Commissioner letting them know your position on this issue. We need your help in fighting to keep Hunters Point, the Resort we have come to know, we would have to close down our summer storage and say goodbye to good friends/customers and we are trying our best to see that it doesn't happen, hopefully your letters and support will make the difference.
Count me in on this! Hunter's is like home, not only to me but to alot of people I know and have met up there. When are they making the decission on this?
The county has so far held 2 meetings to discuss this. It is a miracle they didn't make a ruling last night at the meeting but they are talking to the County attorny's office and they have up to 60 days to make a ruling so all letters should be written and sent in ASAP. As soon as I know when the next meeting is I will let everyone know.
Cassie, I had no idea anything like this was happening. May I suggest you send a letter out to all your costomer informing them of the issues? I will get a letter out ASAP. Keep us up to date on any developements.
Yea I agree I will see what I can type up!! Thanks for all your help, you and Sharla!! You don't know how much it means to have people like you behind our family...even dad got a lil teary eyed when mom told him what we are all doing!! Thanks again
I think the complaining neighbors of Hunter's should take a little drive around there county. Is it me or is there junk piled everywhere??? From abandoned mobile homes, to cars, old machinery and garbage . Let's see they are complaining about a resort that since Nitti's have taken it over has: Rebuilt the bar /resort, built new cabins, added new equipment , is well kept up by the owners and staff and they seem to be always on board when it comes to helping in the comunity. Kinda tough to see there side , maybe there efforts could be used to attack the true problems in the county and improve those area's before they worry about attacking someone that is trying to make an honest living.

I'd try to make an agreement with the neighbor by offering to install an 8' or 10' weaved, chain link privacy fence. After all, this is the neighbor and probabley not going anywhere for a while. These fences seem to work well as a buffer arround jails and prisons that are "plumked" right in the middle of residential communities. Also, keep the letters going to the County Board. Typically they are fence riders and a little push in the right direction sometimes is all it takes.
We have already built berms, added pine trees for privacy and there is a fence between the back of the resort and the residental area. We also offered to put up an electronic fence to keep dead storage closed off.
I just got done writing mine. If any of you are at all concerned about not being able to go to Hunter's without reservations, just dropping in and getting a place to park your boat, fish house or RV, then get on it. Get those letters sent in.
Paul and I sent our letter out today. I also know of 2 others that went out today - friends of ours who have been up to Hunters with us. We are asking all of our friends and family who have been up north with us to send letters as well.
I also notice today that the postings that were out on the Minnesota Fishing Forums related to the "Fight for Hunters" have been removed. Must have been an issue with the "rules" of the site or someone didn't want us sending letters. Who knows. Just isn't right!
Agree agree agree! Hunter's Point is one of the best maintained and well run resorts on all of Mille Lacs......clean, quiet and a great family get away! Boo Hoo on the property owners that are complaining. What do you think drives up the prices of your land?.....it certainly isn't the ugly run down privatly owned cabins with junk all over their yard. I would say it has much more to do with great business owners and community members like George and Linda Nitti that are constantly promoting events, media coverage and tourism to your area. Grow up and stop the stupid witch hunt.
I've asked a whole slew of people to write letters. They have all been there and want to continue to be able to do so. Let's show our power in numbers. Keep H.P. the way it is. That's why we all go there.
I did some checking with the County. Letters regaurding the Fight for Hunters can be directed to the attention of the Planning Commission, in care of Linda Brattelid in the Zoning Office. You can email them to Linda at linda.brattelid@co.mille-lacs.mn.us
The next Planning Commission meeting -- to which this item has been tabled -- is scheduled for 7/9/07.
I did both - I know that the email will be distributed to not only the commissioner, but also the County Board. The letter sent via snail mail could easily get "lost."
That is awesome Sunshine! Thank-you. OK everyone, now this is even easier. Please, if you are reading this, you have access to a computer. Send a quick letter of support before you log off.
Thank-you and enjoy your week-end @ the best resort on Mille Lacs!
For those of you on other forum sites - can you please post the email address to where letters can be sent? I want to make sure we get the word out. thank you!
I can't believe the neighbors could even make the claim that the resort is "dirty, loud and overcrowded". I bring my family up to the resort as if it was our "cabin" and have experienced nothing but peaceful evenings by the campfire, meeting many new friends and neighbors.
If anything, we are all helping to keep up the resort, as it is where we "live". You certainly don't see all of the trash and junk sitting around like you do at many other private properties around the lake...
I think it should be mandatory for ALL resort owners, to have been in the sanitation business prior to owning a resort. You will not find a neater, cleaner or friendlier resort around this or any other lake, in my opinion. My email has been sent, and shame on the neighbors.... you don't know what a gem you have there. Hunters is solely responsible for thousands of $$$ every weekend pumped into not only Mille Lacs, but Aitkin county as well.
Hey ya'all hope to see at the lake this weekend!! Big Tournament weekend!! Keep up the awesome work, and thanks again for all your support. You guys are truly the greatest!!

We're sending our email today...You've got the best place around the lake... makes no sense to us why anyone would say otherwise.. we're behind you 100%
I didn't make the meeting so I can't go that in-depth with what all happened but I can tell you want I know. Many of the Hunters Point "fan club" attended the meeting to show their support!! The board made a motion to suggest that Hunters be able to store 85 houses in there summer area. All fish houses near the creek must be moved, to allow 100feet of space. The boards suggestions will now be passed on the the county commissioners for the final vote. The final decision will be made at the Aug meeting. Hopefully I will have more information for you later tomorrow. But so far things are looking good!!
Cassie, I am relatively new here (i have already called it home) and a short timer who probally won't be back next year due to this circumstance... I wouldn't want anyone displaced or not able to take in the atmosphere Hunters has to offer. It is a shame the county is playing this the way they are and it should be fought long and hard to maintain what you all have! I will write my letter and mail it...who in particular should it be addressed to? Keep up the fight!
