Remember that this is the guy who stated in 2010 when he was running for governor that he was going to make all the regulations for hunting and fishing the same for EVERYONE in Minnesota. That was 5 years ago. Since then he's been in the Bands' back pocket and doesn't answer his phone or e-mails on the subject.

I downloaded a video I took of the exchange between our governor and Joe Fellegy the local lake historian and retired fishing guide who writes for the Outdoor News.
I've got the whole exchange downloaded. Here it is:

Classic!

Well, the lip service paid to the residents, business owners and sports anglers is going nowhere with any "special session", state support or anything else that might help bring an end to the bureaucratic stupidity and regulations that have been choking the life out of the lake we love.

Channel 4 news this morning reports that there is no support in the State Congress to do ANYTHING and the Committee meeting yesterday ended abruptly without plans to meet again.

Surprise!

Treaty Management.

Good Evening Fishingnpole,
I wrote Mr. Dayton a letter just before this all blew up. My final paragraph is included below. I must say that he at least tried to act. But I agree, in the subtext implied, there is a lot of money being offered by certain lobby groups ( and I covered that that in the letter, also found below)

Final paragraph:

I fully expect that Mille Lacs will be a “catch and release only” for entire seasons very soon (except for the bands getting theirs). You will have retired by then and will be remembered as one of our great governors. Yes Sir, you have done much good, but I and many people I know will remember you as the Judge, Jury and Executioner of Mille Lacs. And unfortunately, I don’t believe you care about this legacy. How I wish I was wrong.

Other paragraph:

Most thinking people know that the DNR has screwed up royally on Mille Lacs and their current action helps and serves only the treaty band and is, in all practical aspects, killing most other commerce that derives its living form the lake. As soon as I saw the proposed (in fact the rules) for 2015 on the lake, I knew it was going to become a catch and release lake this year. The DNR knew the same. But they played it as only a worst case situation. Please…let’s show some honesty…something that is completely lacking in the Department that you lead. Yet they allowed netting so the bands got theirs and yes, the resort owners got theirs, too…only trust me, they did not ask for it in that form or in that body orifice.
