Sounds to me like certain groups are not playing well together. http://www.startribune.com/local/300295361.html

The Governor’s Fishing Opener will be held on Lake Vermilion this May, and Leecy said the spotlight should be on the region’s tremendous tourism opportunities, not tribal netting.

I wonder why Governor Goofy didn't want to fish Mille Lacs?

From what I can determine the Governor last had his opener on Mille Lacs in 1991. It would be an interesting study to compare which lake (area) is selected and the voting patterns of the last election. I would hate to think that even fishing is political but the reality of the situation is that most things are. One would think that if those that are in power in St. Paul truly believe that Mille Lacs was the premiere walleye lake in Minnesota they would be up there more often. Not withstanding, I will spend a good deal of my fishing time there because I like the people I deal with there. collections.mnhs.org/governors/index.php/10003914
