Fishing the North Flats

There are alot of hot spots that don't ever get fished on the north end of the flats. Alot of fishermen know about East Flat, Shultz's, Blue Jug and that, but few ever fish the others: Bomback, Pantry, Welmer, Resort and some of the smaller ones.

http://files.dnr.state.mn.us/lakefind/data/lakemaps/b0212021.pdf

I was on Bomback rigging on Sunday afternoon with the south wind that was perfect for drifting these flats for a couple of hours. here was the results:

It's so true, John. I started exploring some of those flats for the first time last year and had pretty good success. It's a big lake with what seems like infinite possibilities. It's hard to think out of the box, so to speak, when a guy fishes "his spots" year after year. But be rest assured, I'll be heading back up that way soon. Claire was already telling me it's time to go to the flats. 10 years old and already telling old dad where to fish.

The mud went crazy last Saturday!  I was amazed no one was out there with the nice weather.  East flat was packed as usual, as was the boot, and nine mile, but the rest was pretty desolate.  The Backer was even nude.....  Great to fish with no one else around, we got to laugh, cheer, and have fun without getting hoarded in on.  June on Mille Lacs is the best!
