We just got back from two days of fishing and thought I'd tell how it went.  We where in house #5. We caught several nice perch, kept about 50 in total. Found that perch where spitting up shrimp, so we hooked those shrimp back on small jigs and using an Aqua-vu we could be selective on which perch we let take the bait. Kept taking it away from the small ones and dropping it to the bottom when a big perch came into view. Had lots of fun hope this info helps.           Kurt    biggrin

Hey Brad, good to see you made it off the ice okay. But I think you should probably change your name to BOB. using your definition of "BOB".  Buckey is quite the fisherman, but I'm the detail guy. Did your group ever try the shrimp on jig?? If so how did it work for Ya?  I'm going to get my shack out on the ice this weekend down here. You can bet there will be a few BOBs around and the Icehole will be flowing. Later Kurt     ps say hi to "SHANK" for me.

Hi Troll, What I mean when I said shrimp is, We noticed that every time we brought a fish up they where regerging  what looks like fresh water shrimp about an inch plus long. So we hooked them back on a small teardrop jig. read my first post on this subject. I don't know if there are som soft plastics out there that mimic these shrimp, might be worth checking into.   Kurt

Thanks for the reply, it sounds like a "wiggler" we use alot here in michigan

http://www.troutnut.com/specimen/581

that is a link to what they look like, alot of times here the fish bite wont be great cause there is a hatching of these wigglers and the lake bottom is loaded with them.  Let me know what you think.

Thanks for the Info....This is my first year fishing out of Hunter's.
So far I'm Drawing a blank, but I have been fishing out of my Permant house.
Looks like the key is to use the house as home base and stay mobile.
I am currently out on 2-mile reef. Last Saturday While fishing during the day
I saw tons of 1-3 inch Perch, but no jumbos. Every time I started jigging I brought a dozen "Shrimp-Os" in. After dark, my flasher was almost usless due to the Perch collecting around my bait. I had half a dozen 1 inch Perch come up my holes and die????

Even the Walleye Whistle I bought from the guy out-side Johnsons' Portside failed to bring in the eyes. What's I guy to do??

I'll be up this Saturday to give it another try.

We started out using waxies, but switched to what I now know are called wigglers. We were also using the Aqua-vu to be more selective on fish. some started using gold color, I started with chartruse colors.    good luck Kurt

I think what your seeing are Helgermites!!! the perch will feed on them in the deeper mud areas this time of the year.!! It is a good idea to hook them up and use them as bait!!! I've had some really good luck doing it that way........
